Victoria-Wes is a town in the Great Karoo (Northern Cape) that joins hands with the N12, also known as the Diamond Route.
The upper town with plenty of historical treasures lies West of the N12, nestled between two hills. Here, in Kerkstraat, shines the Apollo Theater, the country's oldest and still functioning art deco theatre. Elsewhere in the street, the NG and Anglican churches proudly watch over the town. A visit to the local regional museum is a must. Some of the focal points in the museum are the fish fossils, the preservation of the shore rabbit which only occurs in the area, the origin of the town and also the regional newspaper, the Messenger, which is one of the oldest regional newspapers in the country. The historic walking route through the town is a voice from the past. Two hiking trails, Moonlight Hill and Ribbok, provide a different view of the town.
Annual highlights are the Agricultural Show in February, the Karoo Golf Classic in May and the Game Festival in June. The town boasts several guesthouses, restaurants, coffee shops and other businesses. The area is particularly famous for the Merino sheep and hunters like to visit us in winter.
Victoria West offers more than you could ever imagine.
