Markdam
In 1926, it was decided to drill at the Markplein, because it was too far for some people to fetch water from the spring (Die Bron).
The hole was drilled 100 feet deep, a windmill was erected, a stone dam was built and covered with a zinc roof. In November 1927 the dam was filled with water, but it burst and in 1928 the floor was broken up, excavated to the bedrock, and a 4-inch concrete floor was laid.
In 1949 it was drilled again and 8,000 gellings of water/hour were found. The market dam's water was distributed through the town by means of culverts, and also supplied water to people and their draft animals, where they “spanuit” in the square during communion and Middelkerk.
