N.G. Kerk Merweville

The impressive gothic building style Ned. Ref. Church built in Merweville is hard to miss. The church building as it stands does have quite a few stories, of which the roof is one.

When the church was built, tiles were ordered from overseas and sent to South Africa by ship. However due to the First World War in 1914, the ship never reached its destination. Presumably sunk. An alternative plan had to be made and at an additional cost of £280 the roof was coated with maltoid. The roof was never tiled but was later covered with zinc.
