Anglikaanse Kerk
Like most things in Springbok, the Anglican church was founded because of the Namaqualand's copper mine developments. Although Governor Simon van der Stel explored the region in 1685, copper mining did not begin in earnest until 1852. The first Anglican curate, the Rev. Henry Whitehead, arrived in 1855 and by 1856 he had performed the first marriage in Springbokfontein. In 1862, the Rev. W.J.R. Morris took over and designed the church. Construction began in 1865. The church, built of granite, initially lacked certain features such as a bell, a south porch and a finished floor. The church building was consecrated on 9 May 1866 by Bishop Gray. Despite claims of Sophia Gray's involvement in its design, most sources attribute the church's design to the Rev. Morris.
Interestingly, the Anglican church (1865- one of the oldest buildings in town) was built before the first Dutch Reformed Church, which was only built in 1877. Most rural towns were started when the Dutch Reformed Church bought a farm and built a church.
