Teebus and Koffiebus
Two iconic koppies between Middelburg and Steynsburg are
known as Teebus and Koffiebus. The names are very unique and most internet
sources refer to the derivation as teapot. But in E.J. du Plessis’ book, ’n Ondersoek na die oorsprong en betekenis
van Suid-Afrikaanse berg- en riviername, the reference is definitely to a
"teebussie". And when you go back to the internet and search
for pictures of a teebussie, or rather theebus, you come across cans from the
early 1900s that have that knob that makes the comparison to the pinnacle on
Teebus very clear.
