Camaraderie Art Project

Two is better than one. Together they achieve more in their work. If one person falls, his friend can help him up. - Ecclesiastes 4:9-10

Camaraderie is a word not used much anymore, but it is something that is a basic need of being human. Our Karoo and Kontrei are once again on a mission to reawaken it in people in a practical way. Although it is a basic need, it is no longer lived out in today's hectic world.

At the beginning of 2023 we asked artists in the greater Karoo and surrounding countryside to create a work of art with the theme "Camaraderie". These artworks were then uploaded to a website and the public voted for the top artworks which Ons Karoo and Kontrei took on tour – as part of the practical part of camaraderie. The artworks were exhibited at six different festivals. This is something one artist could hardly do on his own, but if we work together, we can get bigger projects off the ground.

Part of this project was to generate funds for our drought-relief initiative. This initiative is different from the standard drought-relief projects. We must get things in place first, and that takes time. We are still working on it and will approach the artists who participated in the Camaraderie Art Project again when the rest of the plan comes into effect, which will be in 2024.

Thank you to every artist who participated in the Camaraderie Art Project. It was a privilege to exhibit your artworks so widely.
