Draaikrans
Draaikrans is unique because it has rocks that tell us a lot about Earth’s history. These rocks, called the Kweekvlei Formation, were formed around 350 million years ago, during a time when Earth’s landscape was shaped by storms and waves. The rocks are made up of mudstones, siltstones, and fine sandstones, and they contain fossils like plant fragments and trace fossils left by ancient animals. The area is important to scientists because it helps them understand how life and environments changed over time. The layers of rock here are also clearly visible, making it a great place to study ancient geology.
It is just particularly beautiful to see the rock layers with their patterns. You can see the formation from the road, but it is on private land.
