Die Stoep

Die Stoep is a beautiful Karoo-style farmhouse built around 1860 with Victorian detail and was one of the first houses in Calitzdorp. It is rented as a self-catering unit and can sleep up to 10 people (customers do not share the facilities with other people and the house is rented as a unit).

Die Stoep, as the name suggests, is enclosed by a large porch with doors opening onto it. Oregon pine floors and sliding shuttered windows give this home a special feel of bygone days. The ceilings are 4m high and the walls half a meter thick and are built of unburned mud bricks. This building style was typical of the period and the result is a house that is cool in the hot summer months and hot in the winter.

The shutters are still used to regulate the indoor temperature. The lounge has a fireplace, TV and hi-fi set. A door leads to the veranda. The typical farmhouse kitchen has a cosy sitting area and a wood fireplace for those cold winter evenings. It is equipped with a fridge, stove, microwave, coffee machine, steamer and washing machine and dishwasher. It is fully equipped with cutlery, crockery and glassware. As well as braai grill, tongs and potjie pots. The courtyard is accessible from the kitchen on one side and the bar on the other. It is fully surrounded by a high wall.

Here, the beautiful star-filled night sky can be enjoyed from the built-in lounge area, with a fire pit. There is a covered braai and entertainment area. A splash pool and entertainment area are in the backyard.

There are 3 bedrooms: Percale linen and bath towels are provided.

• Ostrich Room - The master bedroom is large and has a king-size bed as well as a bunk bed, closet and a dressing room.
• Springbok room - has a double bed and en suite with shower, basin and toilet, this area leads through the bar to the courtyard. There is also a cupboard.
• Meerkat room - leads to the enclosed porch and has a double bed with en-suite bath, basin, shower and separate toilet and cupboard. There is also a separate, cute bathroom with a toilet, basin and shower over the vintage bath and old-fashioned wall cabinet.

The large dining room is in the middle of the house and has seating for 10, the perfect place to entertain.Die Stoep also offers:
