1. Who we are

Karoo1Stop ("we", "us", "our") operates this website as a community directory for the Karoo region of South Africa. We are the "responsible party" under POPIA for the personal information described below.

2. The information we collect

Business/Listing contact details - name, address, phone number, email, social media links and approximate GPS location - submitted by a business owner (or a community member on their behalf) for public display in the directory.
Community ("Family") member details - name, email and phone number for people connected to the project. These are kept in our back office and are not shown on any public page of this website.
Website usage information via cookies - see our Cookie Policy for the full detail of what is used and why.
Location information when you use an interactive map on this site (provided by Mapbox) to show you towns, listings or routes.

3. Why we process this information

To operate a public business/community directory you have asked to be listed in or are browsing; to let visitors find and contact listed businesses; to operate community features (events, articles); and to keep the site itself running securely.

4. Who we share it with

Business/Listing contact details are shown publicly on this website by design - that is the purpose of a directory. We also use a small number of service providers to run the site: our website hosting provider, and Mapbox for map display. We do not sell personal information to anyone.

5. Cross-border transfers

Some of our service providers (hosting, mapping) may process information on servers located outside South Africa. Where this happens, we only use providers that apply data protection standards at least as strong as POPIA requires.

6. How long we keep it

Listing information is kept for as long as the Listing is active on the directory, plus a reasonable period after a business closes or asks to be removed. Community member details are kept for as long as needed for the purpose they were collected for.

7. Your rights under POPIA

You have the right to:

ask us what personal information we hold about you;
ask us to correct or update it;
ask us to delete it, or to stop using it, subject to any legal reason we may need to keep it;
object to our processing of your information; and
lodge a complaint with South Africa's Information Regulator (inforegulator.org.za) if you believe we have not handled your information correctly.

8. Keeping your information secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal information in our care against loss, unauthorised access, and misuse.

9. Children's information

This website is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children without the consent of a parent or guardian.
