Thulani Tented Eco Retreat
Thulani Tented Eco Retreat is nestled in a picturesque, private setting on the outskirts of the quaint Klein Karoo village, Vanwyksdorp.
Situated on an environmentally conscious small-holding, Thulani offers comfortable tented accommodation above the bank of the Groot River, surrounded by beautiful Klein Karoo flora. Private, rustic and secluded, the self-catering bush camp provides an ideal getaway for those who appreciate nature and simply want to relax in tranquil surroundings.
Thulani, meaning be still; be peaceful, offers an authentic, bush-camping experience with the luxury of sleeping in a comfortable bed. The dome tent is situated on a raised wooden platform and is equipped with a double bed, side tables and a solar lantern. The tent opens onto a small viewing deck overlooking the Groot River which comfortably accommodates two camp chairs. Bedding & towels are included.
Downstairs, below the tent deck, is the kitchen area, living area and bathroom. The kitchen features a large eco-cooler box (ice packs will be provided), a gas burner and a sink. Crockery, cutlery, glassware, saucepan, frying pan and cooking utensils are provided.
The living area has a hanging hammock chair, and a dining table, which doubles up as a daybed, from which you can view the amazing bird life around the camp as well as the brilliant night sky, or just simply relax and enjoy the tranquility.
The rustic bathroom is located just off of the living space and features a hand basin, hot-water shower and a dry toilet (waterless, environmentally friendly compost toilet).
A braai area with seating, is situated a short distance from the tented camp, with braai grid & braai utensils. A bundle of firewood is provided and more may be purchased if needed.
In keeping with the off-grid, secluded, yet comfortable, feel of the camp, there is no electricity. Lighting is provided by solar powered lights, while cooking and the hot water geyser is gas-powered. Further ensuring the rustic atmosphere is the lack of cellphone reception, although you can occasionally pick up a signal from the upper deck.
Please note access to the tent is via a sloping pathway which is uneven in places and requires a fairly good level of fitness.
