Calitzdorp Community Chest

We are Calitzdorpers who volunteer our time and expertise towards projects that uplift our community. We do fundraising and distribution of funds to worthy causes that apply. Our main fundraising event is the Apricot Jamboree in late November in which we cook and bottle over 1000 bottles of delicious apricot jam, there are also smaller events throughout the year. The First funds were carried over to start Calitzdorp Community Chest on 1 January 2015 from The Dream Project that was established on 1 September 2012. The First Apricot Harvest Festival was held on 4 December 2015. Annual potjiekos during event is also a fundraiser. Our First Jamboree took place on 28 November 2016. Potjiekos continued and Christmas market grew to what they are today. Some of our projects have included helping “FOCA” (Friends Of Calitzdorp Animals), funding people taking short courses to help them take advantage of work opportunities, our Christmas hamper drive (45 hampers delivered to households that are struggling) amongst other things. The Calitzdorp Community Chest was established to support upliftment in town, assist people to start their own community projects and help provide opportunities for people who have benefitted to “spread the love” in the community.
